Moreno Valley couple arrested for alleged murder, torture, child abuse

A Moreno Valley couple was arrested on suspicion of murder, torture, and child abuse on Friday after their adopted 10-year-old son died, authorities said.

On Thursday, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a child needing medical aid in the 13000 block of Malibu Court, in Moreno Valley. Deputies found a 10-year-old boy in medical distress. Paramedics transported the young boy to a local hospital.

Deputies’ initial investigation found possible signs of abuse and neglect. The Riverside Sheriff’s Office Special Victims unit was called to the scene.

The boy’s health declined and several hours later he died at the hospital. The Riverside Sheriff’s Homicide Unit was called and assumed the investigation.

The joint investigation led to the arrest of the boy’s adopted parents, 51-year-old Alejandra Marin and 59-year-old Juan Sanchez Moreno, on suspicion of murder, torture, and child abuse, sheriff’s officials said in a press release. Both suspects are residents of Moreno Valley.

People with knowledge on this investigation are being asked to contact Central Homicide Investigator S. Denham or Master Investigator R. Deanne at 951–955–2777.
